Will's Wisdom: JBS Emissions Pledge Update

JBS is one of the four big International beef companies that controls over 80%, and approaching 90%, of the beef in the United States.

JBS announced in 2021 that they were going to cut their carbon emissions and by 2025, deforestation would not be done any more.

Deforestation is a horrible ecological practice, particularly if you're in Brazil and in the Amazon, where virgin jungles are cut down to grow cattle.

They announced that they were going to cease doing those things and now they've decided that that's inconvenient. It costs too much.

It is very interesting the way they stated it and said that it was an “aspiration” and “it was never a promise that JBS was going to make it happen.”

It was originally a corporate announcement and I guess that most of us feel like when you hear an announcement from an international company, that it is kind of a promise.

But it doesn't matter, they’ve decided not to do it. And I think it's horrible.

We're very proud of the fact that we actually sequester more carbon than we emit. We had a professionally done scientific study here and they proved that we sequester 3 1/2 pounds of carbon for every pound of beef we produce.

And make no mistake, other beef companies could do the same thing if they chose to.
